Trivia time

modern-steam

We’ll mail a little prize to the first person who correctly answers the following two questions:

  1. Where in the world is this?
  2. What uses less energy: running the apparatus at full capacity, or running it empty?

The first correct post in the Comments Section (not Twitter or Facebook) wins!

Hat tip to Tom M. for sharing this modern steampunk contraption.

    b) Neither. The same.

  2. Nicely played! Steve for the win!

The Falkirk Wheel is the world’s only rotating boat lift, operating on the foundation of Archimedes’ Principle (a body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid).

Even though the Wheel is located in Scotland, the fluid used is, in fact, water.

Steve, I’ll catch up with you soon! Congrats, Mr. Steampunk!

  3. I saw a show on discovery or some similar channel about that thing. It’s awesome!

  4. Been around it and it is pretty cool! It is also a great statement of engineering in the Scottish landscape … along the lines of the Forth Rail Bridge.
