This Saturday, Take a Pint Out of Crime
As a lot of you know, our $3,000 double-barrel pig smoker (used to smoked the grains for Hogwash) was stolen last week from the back of the brewery. Although we have insurance, the incident has made us realize it’s time to beef up our security in the back of the brewery. We’d rather put our resources into meeting the demand for beer, but safety and security are clearly a priority right now.
We’re pretty transparent folks, so here’s the total estimated impact of a stolen smoker:
- Cost to replace the smoker: $3,000 (deductible, what we still owed for our original smoker)
- Security camera installation: $2,000
- Roll-away fence: $5,000 estimate, bid coming tomorrow)
Total: $10,000
Every business has these unexpected expenses, but we’ve been amazed and appreciative of the countless number of people who have asked, “How can I help?” Ever since last week, we’ve had a lot of encouragement/gentle prodding to hold a fundraising event of our own.
So we’re in. But our thinking is: if we’re going to try and raise $10,000, it better be a pretty big party.

Take a Pint Out of Crime is happening on Saturday—this Saturday—April 7, from the time we open at noon until we close at 2 a.m. If we meet our $10,000 fundraising goal by 10 p.m., we’ll tap into a little beer called IGOR.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
1) Become a Defender of Awesome ($99) and receive…
- a personalized, permanent certificate on Fullsteam’s Wall of Awesome
- an “I Took a Pint Out of Crime” t-shirt
- the opportunity to purchase cellar rarities at Fullsteam R&D on Saturday, April 7.
Our goal is to gather at least 50 Defenders of Awesome. Sign up at the door or become one now by clicking HERE.
2) Become a Protector of Fun ($25) and receive…
- an “I Took a Pint Out of Crime” t-shirt
- the opportunity to purchase cellar rarities at Fullsteam R&D on Saturday, April 7.
Our goal is to gather at least 100 Protectors of Fun. Sign up at the door or become one now by clicking HERE.
By a t-shirt a la carte: For $20, have an “I Took a Pint Out of Crime” t-shirt (without cellar privileges). We’ll have the shirts for sale online soon…we’re still finalizing the design.
THE DAY OF THE FUNDRAISER
Barbecue sandwiches (1pm to 4pm):
The good folks at Bart’s Old North State Barbecue and Cackalacky are donating a whole hog and donating proceeds to the smoker fund.
Music:
We’ve got music in the afternoon from The Hops Brothers (blues…how fitting!) and in the evening from Debonzo Brothers.
Food trucks:
Klausie’s Pizza and Martin’s Curry Rice arrive around 5pm!
Session beer specials:
Saturday is Session Beer Day! We’ll have our Session Day Shandy Station set up with El Toros and Shandies (1/3 lemonade, 2/3 El Toro) for $3 a pint and $12 a pitcher.
*Rare beers! (for Defenders of Awesome and Protectors of Fun only):
Defenders of Awesome and Protectors of Fun will have the rights to purchase, while supplies last,:
- Rocket Science IPA ($5 a pint)
- Paw Paw ($4 a half-pint)
- Bourbon barrel-aged Fullsteam ($5 a pint)
- First Frost ($5 a half-pint)
- And 2011 IGOR for ANYONE at the tavern at 10pm…IF AND ONLY IF we meet our $10,000 goal by then. ($5 a half-pint).
****
We’ve put a lot of thought into how to make this the most awesomest fundraiser possible. But at the end of the day, what will make it awesome is you. Hopefully holding a glass of IGOR and celebrating the power of community.
Please join us Saturday. Take a pint out of crime.

Awesome idea, and looking forward to chipping in!
Question: (Pending finalized design for the T-shirt of Crime-Fighting Awesomeness)
If you run out of shirts in my size, or if the design isn’t as awesome as your other design, or whatever, could people maybe give you $25 for a different shirt and cellar privileges? Or does that just make things more confusing?
I think you have your t-shirt design already. The Rabbits Rampant with Roll-Away Fencing and Pig-Smoker looks all right to me.
Thanks, Randy and K!
The shirt will indeed have the squirrel/rabbits on the back and “I Took A Pint Out of Crime” on the front. Just finalizing t-shirt colors. K, we’d rather sell these shirts as they’re event-specific…pretty sure you’ll love them…but if not, we can work something out I’m sure!
Cheers!
Sean
Really looking forward to this event and hope the goal is reached! I took the tour yesterday (4/1) and hung out for a while afterwards. . .it was definitely a great time in a really relaxed environment! For curiosity sake, what will happen to IGOR if the 10pm deadline is not met?
Sean, Sorry for the terrible news. I want to be on the Wall of Awesome. Also will donate 50% of $40 Martin’s Curry Rice Gift Cards sold … for use at our next awesome cheap beer or wine dinners.. or In-store purchase. Also will give 10% of our Saturday sales… Martin’s Curry Rice would like to see FullSteam smoking again.
James,
We’ll just safely store IGOR away until our two-year anniversary in August!
Cheers!
Sean
