This Saturday, Get LUEWWD!

Until recently I hadn’t heard of LUEWWD, the League of Upper Extremity Wrestling Women of Durham, but I’m frankly not surprised that it exists. Everyone knows this town has some badass ladies around. What LUEWWD does is pretty simple and really awesome. Basically they arm wrestle for money, and then they give the money to local charities that support women and children.

This Saturday, June 16, LUEWWD is hosting a fundraising party at Fullsteam for the Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC)DCRC has a 24-hour crisis line plus a whole slew of other services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. It’s actually the only organization of its kind in the whole county. But their building needs a new roof! Because maintenance costs are rarely covered by the usual grants and gifts, non-profits like the DCRC end up in a pickle when stuff needs to be repaired.

Enter LUEWWD. The party on Saturday is both a fundraiser for the DCRC’s new roof and a viewing of SuperCLAW, the National Lady Arm-Wrestling Championships on the big screen! LUEWWD will have a representative at the tournament in Charlottesville, VA, and all her winnings will go to the DCRC as well. The viewing starts at 9 p.m! No word yet on whether any live lady arm-wrestling will be going down, but we’re reinforcing the tables just in case.
