It was an honor to premiere Hogwash!, our hickory-smoked brown porter, with North Carolina barbecue — and Ed Mitchell’s famous Eastern-style ‘cue, no less! Ed Mitchell is a Wilson native who is now the “boss” / pitmaster at The Pit in downtown Raleigh. It’s clear after seeing his barbecue demonstration at Saturday’s dinner that he holds Wilson close to his heart.

We poured Fullsteam, Sweet Potato, and Hogwash! for a modest but enthusiastic crowd.

Takeaway #1 was that the smokiness of Hogwash! is pronounced on its own, but subdued when paired with Carolina barbecue.

Takeaway #2 is that our Sweet Potato beer pairs surprisingly well with naner puddin.

The Arts Council of Wilson has invited Fullsteam to serve beer to compliment the Eastern-style barbecue of legendary pitmaster Ed Mitchell (The Pit in Raleigh).

Be among the first to try Hogwash!, our Hickory-Smoked Brown Porter crafted to pair perfectly with North Carolina barbecue. We'll also bring our flagship Fullsteam Carolina Common if smoky beers aren't your thing. If you smile just right, we might also bring some Sweet Potato Amber.

Come celebrate and support the arts in Ed Mitchell's hometown: Wilson, North Carolina.

Ed Mitchell's pig-cooking demonstration will take place at two different times Saturday, first at 12:15 p.m. and later at 6:15 p.m. Both demonstrations will be held at the Farris & Farris parking lot at the corner of Nash and Tarboro streets in downtown Wilson.

Tickets for admission, which include Mitchell's cooking show, are $12 for lunch and $20 for dinner. Tickets may be purchased online at www.theateroftheamericansouth.org, by phone through the Arts Council of Wilson at 291-4329 Ext. 10 or at the Arts Council box office at 124 Nash St.
