Hey everyone, it’s Monday!! Don’t look so excited, it’s overwhelming me.

It’s true, I know. In the words of my favorite bluegrass song, “How could Monday ever compare to Sunday, Sunday, Old Timey Funday?”* Thank heavens for Suman, here to greet you on the other side of Monday with a big plate of delicious. Check out this week’s menu:

A Very Bolly Monday Menu for January 30, 2012
5 – 7:30 p.m., eat in or take out. $10 all-inclusive.

Punjabi Chicken Curry: A robust ensemble of all-natural, boneless chicken with tomatoes, fresh ginger and redolent with black cardamom and cilantro
Dal Tamatar: Comfort food….red lentils with tomatoes and cumin
Punj-Rattani Gobhi (5-Jewel Cauliflower): Cauliflower with fresh ginger and five spices

Garlic Naan
Fresh Cilantro Chutney

Extra naan for $1 and extra chicken for $2. Add $3 for freshly made cucumber Raita too!

Here at the Office of Community & Fun, we felt it was important to write a post that would make people want to come to Drag Queen Bingo. So we tried, but then we realized that’s like trying to write a post to encourage people to eat candy. EAT CANDY! DRAG BINGO! What more is there to say?

So here’s a video that incorporates candy and queens:

And here are some relevant details: Drag Bingo is coming to Fullsteam this Wednesday at 9 p.m, which makes it the unofficial kick-off to the Month of Awesome aka February here at the tavern. What does that mean for you? It means you should come, if only to bask in the presence of Mary K Mart, Drag Bingo hostess and lady of the hour. As for the bingo, it’s not your grandma’s scene (no disrespect to your grandma… you should bring her too). It’s eight quick rounds of bingo with a break in the middle. No word yet on whether there’s a halftime show. There are definitely prizes involved. The winner of every round gets a $25 gift certificate to Fullsteam. That means free beer!

So, in conclusion, EAT CANDY! DRAG BINGO! FREE BEER (for winners)!

And the fun keeps rolling on…

Every Sunday mid-afternoon, we bring you a little Southern-Fried Sunday: beer from us! Barbecue from the Olde North State food truck! And bluegrass (mostly…sometimes we stray from the theme to bring in some blues, alt-country, or songwriters).

This Sunday it’s Puritan Rodeo from Chapel Hill, which the Herald-Sun describes as “an uptempo Americana band battling punk urges.” Take a listen here. The music kicks off at 4pm.

Old North State will be on-site serving up ‘cue, ribs, and much much more from 3 to 6pm!

Today’s the last Saturday of the month, and January seems to be going out in style, giving us a run of unseasonably mild days. And it looks like it’ll be one of those days again today. Maybe it’s fitting (or tragic, depending on your outlook) that we’re down to our last couple of kegs of First Frost persimmon ale. Onward, we say! To February! Have you heard? February is going to be Awesome.

So we’re conserving energy, keeping things simple at the tavern today: we got the beer, we got the space, we got the food trucks. We got the comfortable temps. In other words, it’s the Saturday Social!

Oh, February, arguably the most hated month of them all. It’s winter…still. New Years resolutions are crumbling. Valentine’s Day is somewhere between mildly annoying and full-blown stressful, depending on your situation. People say that the best thing about it is that it’s over sooner. Well we thought we’d reclaim poor February and make it the Month of Awesome. Remember when we made 2010 the Year of Awesome? This is like that, but with February.

So what are we going to do?

First, we’re expanding our hours starting February 1st.

Second, we’re revitalizing regular events like Drinks With Fullsteam and Celebrity Trivia (oh yes, stay tuned).

Third, we’re kicking off some brand new monthly fun stuff. Belly Dancing! Drag Bingo!

We told February about our plan and it was so excited that it’s giving us an extra day. That’s 29 days of awesome. Wow, February, you never looked so good. Did you do something with your hair?
