Southern Basil, our most popular summer beer, is an ever-changing feast for the senses. And on the heels of its 2019 Good Food Award, we're proud to share some great news: other than a small amount of hops, the beer is now all local.
Join us for a release party featuring food specials, beer pairings, guest appearances by some of our favorite local basil farmers, and, of course, Southern Basil on tap!
This year’s Southern Basil uses Carolina Malt House, Inc. barley,
Riverbend Malt House wheat, and basil from four local farms:
Copeland Springs Farm & Kitchen (Pittsboro), Maple Spring Gardens, LLC (Cedar Grove), Granite Springs Farm (Pittsboro), and
Chickpea Farm (Durham).
Southern Basil evolves over the season as local basil matures and fermentation temperatures rise. The Saison yeast loves our hot summers, responding with an award-winning punch of peppery, vibrant flavors. It's okay that this plow-to-pint beer doesn't always taste the same. It's a beautiful thing.
